Default Harley ESP

I would like to know if anyone has a copy of the "Contract". I would like to see in writing what is grounds for them not to cover a repair. My bike is basically stock. I do have a sert tuner, SE air cleaner and aftermarket slipons. Also a trailer hitch, which have never used and would remove if it ws an issue. I would just like to know chapter and verse what is and isn't allowed... Before I lay out my money. Been to the dealer and they just give me the flyer and tell me everytime is covered. But I read on hear that some things are not and would void the agreement. There must be something that you sign when you purchase it. I have a 07 Ultra that looks like new but has 73500 on the clock. $2000 for another 5 years of protection sounds like it would be a good investment {providing}

Trailer hitch is usually a no no I think that's mentioned in the handbook or so I've heard and they can be dicks about it depending on the dealer , they can use that to void any work on the drive train as pulling a trailer puts undue stress on it and I overheard that one directly at a service counter .

So HD will sell a SC on any bike with any miles well after purchase? Interesting.

tenmidgets, I think you have to purchase the ESP prior to 75k miles and may have to get it inspected by the dealer. You also may have a short waiting period before filing a claim. To the OP, the mods you made, tuner, a/c, slip ons and trailer hitch, the H-D ESP people would probably deny all of your claims. They certainly would give extra close scrutiny. However a close relationship with your local dealer could assist you and help gain ESP approval without the ESP's knowledge of your mods in most cases. Dealers know how to file claims if it is to their benefit and they want to help you. Good luck.

The trailer hitch is the only thing I can see being an issue out of what you listed.
As for your dealer visit I wouldn't get the warm fuzzies being brushed off when asking for details, but there is a pamphlet that they provide with purchase that is essentially the terms of the contract and they do have multiple copies of it in house.

The trailer hitch i know for a fact will cause them to void your esp / deny it.
I know someone this happened to.

I called / visited with 5 or 6 dealers asked about the tuner they all said if it was a harley tuner it wouldn't be an issue. Same response i got when i called the esp company itself called them several different times. They didn't seem to be concerned about tuners unless a "dealer" tells them an aftermarket tuner caused the problem.

Thanks ACMAN, that is what I was looking for. Now I just have to read it 100 times to make sure I understand it. I am not liking the part right after the towing statement about
" competitive driving, contests of speed and racing". I believe that the SERT says something about for racing only or not for street use. The little voice in my head says to pass on this program but it sure would be nice to have some peace of mind for 5 years

Do what you want or decide,, its your bike. For me it was a no-brainer. I plan on keeping my StreetGlide for 100K miles minimum. Its pretty much bone stock and will remain so. So far my "investment" in the ESP has returned to me about 50% of what I paid for it in the first year. Minor crap that would cost you a bundle at the dealer to have "repaired" but cost only $50 deductible. Example is a recent left front fork seal leak. At 38K miles I notices a dribble running down the left fork. ESP paid the $437 bill to have it "repaired". I will continue to cover the bike as long as HD will allow me to. Right now I have the 5 year coverage. Thats 2 years of Factory and then 5 years of Extended. No doubt I will hit the 75K limit within the 7 year period but that will result in me being covered beyond the 75K limit. My bike is mostly touring so the miles will add up quickly.

I wouldn't be concerned about the sert i put one on my bike after doing some research....
It certainly isn't for everyone i think it all depends on how many miles you put on a bike.
IMO what you need to look at is how many miles you put on your bike a year if u do 15 or 20k a year probably good piece of mind.
You do 5k a year probably a total waste of money.
If they were denying claims constantly over exhaust and tuner's these threads would be full of people talking/complaining about it.

If you read enough of these esp threads you will see they pay off if you have issues. Theres a thread with a mechanic saying they payed off on a bike with a stage 4 that had a blown motor...... they paid to put it back stock cutomer had to pay for the stage 4 upgrade again.

Only person i've known to have an issue was a guy with a trailer hitch on a Ultra
they flat denied his claim.

I have a friend who had his trany go south his bike has an sert he had no issues at all.

Only other person i've seen say they didn't pay i hardly believe since most of the parts he listed as not covered are stated plainly covered in the brochure.
