Help - Moving to Europe - Info needed
I am planning on moving to Europe, specifically to Portugal, next year and would like to take my bikes with me (2011Ultra Limited and 2000 Heritage Springer). Does anyone know of any issues I may run into due to differences between US and European specs (emissions, exhaust noise, lights, instrumentation, etc.)? Any information would be geatly

Any info would be greatly appreciated. I would hate to have to leave my babies behind.

Cant help with that, but give it time. Plenty of service guys here that know whats involved in doing that, although they are in germany. Dont imagine it would be much different in Portugal. There has to be something online that will help you out.

Can't help with Portugal. Are going as a service member or USG civilian? If so, your sponsor should be able to help.
If on the economy, anything after market will likely have to DOT or ECE stamped/certified if like in Germany. If it is stock, there should be no problems. If you have after market exhaust, bring your stockers with some extra gaskets just in case. Contact a Portugal dealer and ask them. |
You might also check out Fulmer helmets. They have a number of models that are both DOT and ECE compliment.

Registering a US spec bike/car in EU can be frustrating and expensive, been there done that!Play it safe and contact the Portuguese Consulate or Embassy and find out their requirements to register.Don't forget to have your title and registration apostilled (just like a notarization but for international use) also note that the US Embassy cannot help you.You will also need a Certificate of Compliance from HD etc. etc.Good luck!

Import taxes will be almost half of the bikes value. And they will put the value HIGH!

Joe, what the hell you doing on here? This is Jonathan. Sell the bikes here and buy when you get there. Import taxes are going to kill you.

Don't forget to check helmet laws. I think is some spots, full face is mandatory.
