Starting problem???

I have a cold start problem with my 2008 se with 110". When it sits over night or for a extended period you go to start and it with turn over 3-4 revolutions before starting but soetimes the compresson releases close when it fires then kicks back. The comp. releases were upgraded replaced at dealer. The thing I found out is if I make only 1 revolution then let off the start button let fuel pump stop hit start button and it fires right off but again in this process sometimes it kicks back and I know I lost at least one tooth from the starter ring gear found it on drain plug. Is this normal or what am I doing wrong. Thanks

Sometimes if I get too quick off the starter button I will have a kick back. Maybe not waiting for a complete start?

I (we) had an issue with my wife letting of on the starter button many times (even though I warned her not to) on her '99 Heritage and at 25,000 miles she needed a new starter clutch.
Hold the darn button until you here the engine fire...it's designed for this.

As for the S/E 110 engine, I have a '13 and it also cranks more (usually) when it's cold and sometimes I get a "backfire" when it does start.
Even warm, mine cranks more than my old T/C 88 used to before starting.
Perhaps someone on this site knows why.

I will add that you (we) need to be sure to keep our battery(s) fully charged and if it seems weak, replace it promptly.
A new battery for less than $100 at Battery Mart is better than ruining your starter.
Also, check your battery terminals regularly to make sure they're tight and clean at the battery and also that the ground cable is tight at the frame.

I have tried different things ans just don't know. If I don't release the starter button it pushes the bendix out and it makes one hell of a grind when it realigns again. Thanks
