I really feel for you guys up in the Northern part of the country. But, while I was enjoying the mid 60s and out riding today, buddy and I saw two large flocks of ducks and they were flying North!!! A sign? Maybe. Of course, they may stop in Kansas, but at least there is some hope now!
Years ago, we didn't see the ducks and geese staying here during the winter but it is a common sight today even with this cold winter, they don't all fly south.
I'm not getting my hopes up, figure we've got at least another 3 weeks or so of cold/snow and then the usual 3 more weeks to a month of rain that gets rid of the salt on the roads.
Good thing, I haven't even started on my bike winter projects yet.
Here in southeast Texas we're having a whole week of high 70s, hope it's a sign of spring finally. Please don't send any more "Blue Northers" this way!
I do feel bad for my northern friends. But, it isn't all peaches and cream down here in central Texas. Yes, currently we are experiencing a spring-like stretch of weather (mid 70's). For us, we have had a harsh winter as well, relatively speaking, of course. We have had more sub-freezing high temperature days this winter than in recent history.
I haven't looked at the Farmer's Almanac, but, does a colder winter mean a cooler summer or does it mean more severe weather, a hotter summer?
In 2011, we had 90 consecutive days of 100+ degree days here in Texas. I hope we don't challenge that record this year.
Sit tight, brothers and sisters. Spring will be here before you know it. Then summer when you can slam us southeners for baking in the heat!
