New Rider, New Bike, Help!

Hey all!

I am looking to get my first bike in the next couple weeks/ months, as soon as the snow clears up here in Toronto Canada!

I was at a motorcycle show and just fell in love with the Fat Bob. This will be my first motorcycle and im determined to get it. What do you guys think?

I was looking at a used one at a motorcycle shop yesterday and they fired it up inside and i just knew i wanted that one, however it has high kilometers so I wanted to get some opinions from some experienced guys whether to go ahead and buy it or look at another one ...

here are the specs:

the guy also mentioned that its got a power commander

$9,300

just keep in mind harleys up here in canada are usually about 30% more than down in the good ol' US

and keep in mind it has 94,000 km so about 60,000 miles

thanks for the help!

p.s. other fatbobs around the same age with lower km's (4k-30k) sell for around 12-16k in the area

You have to do what's right for you and what you can afford.

Can you buy one in the states and ride it home?

My first Harley was a fat bob.
Great bike.....I had a lot of fun on it.
I just needed more room for touring.

It all depends on how you feel about the mileage.
Personally I can tell if a bike has been well maintained or not. Mileage can be a bad thing or an ok thing depending on what type of mileage........you're looking at roughly 12000 miles a year. I live in Florida and ride around 8 to 10 a year.

If you feel like the bike has been well maintained, it looks go and rides good...why not buy it?

Ouch

That's 58,000 Miles....Pretty high for an 09 but not unheard of...but being the top end has been rebuilt...should be OK...here in the US one could find a better deal price wise but understand up there that's about normal...I would at least have them show you the paper work where the engine work had been done to make sure...other then that ...if that's a good deal for Canada go for it....

i could buy in the states but not sure where to look, craigslist?

also the previous owner bought a brand new fat bob and gave this one to the shop (westside motorcycles) and told them to do everything to make the bike nice for the new owner (including the top end rebuild, just freshly done)

I might just have to buy it

What kind of a price could I get a fat bob down in the states for?

thanks all!

One of my riding buddies rides an '09 Fat Bob. It's a nice bike and pretty versatile.

One thing to check out is whether you are comfortable with forward controls which are what a Fat Bob has. Some newer riders prefer to have their feet under them (mid controls).

Look up a hand full of dealers that is closest to your border.

Dealer website should have a search section for used bikes. See if anything pops up for a similar model.

Since you said this is your first bike, have you taken a riders course yet? Have your MC license?

Your skill level would have a bearing on how I answer your question.

Its to expensive for that mileage in my opinion. I have an 11 wideglide with 5400 miles I been thinking about selling was thinking of asking around 10000 just to get it paid off. Just havent decided for sure yet. Can you buy 1 in the US and take it back or do they have expenses in taking it back up there? You may also want to get a cheaper beginer bike just to learn on.

There are not many motorcycles out there that would be worth 9300$ with 60,000miles. It just does not make any sense at all. It is important to not jump on the first thing you like. Not the first thing you see but the first thing you like.
