The Winter Rider

For some of us who brave the cold winter months I have to ask.......WHY do some of you ride your bike when it's say in the 20's or below out? Could it be, these are the only wheels you have, maybe you can't get a ride somewhere, or maybe you want to show your friends that You are still riding your bike even though it's cold out there, or maybe you're cool (no pun intended)??? Now, I know there is alot of gear out there to keep you nice and warm, but what about those ice spots, sand, frost heaves, salt and snow in some cases, etc.????
We've all seen them out there. I'm not knocking anyone riding at this time. I just want to know what the hell is going on upstairs?
Be safe!

Cold Riding

My first ride this year was bringing my bike home from an Indy who fixed an electrical problem. I have a trailer but I had not ridden in along time and it made more sense to ride it rather than trailer it home. It was about 30° but the roads were clear and the bike ran like a scalded dog.

I've ridden when it was 36° and 30° but only because I had to get my bike to the shop for maintenance. Other than that, below 40° I don't get on it. My favorite "cold" weather riding is in the 50s.

Because I love to ride.

Because I want to.

I like it to be 50 or better, but it all depends on the destination.

Well it was nice when I left Phoenix...
Flagstaff, not so much. Besides...it was a rental.

I've ridden to work, on the highway, in 17 degree weather a couple of times. My bike is my primary transportation. Therefore, if I have to go somewhere, and the streets are dry, I ride.

Really? Sounds like a "knock" to me. Maybe you should try it instead of worrying about what others do.

sure seems like you are knocking or questioning cold-weather riders good sense. maybe you should bundle up and go for a ride and figure it out for your self.
