intake ideas

Hi i am new here and i am just looking to get some opinions because this is the first Harley Ive owned. I have an 09` street glide and want to put a cold air/ ram air intake on my bike. im looking for one that will boost my performance the most. Ive looked at hyper chargers but Ive heard they don't work as well as others. what do you all think is the best intake option.

Air intakes add power, but most of the power is at high RPM and high throttle openings. Not a huge benefit under 3000 RPM and 40% throttle, where you normally ride.

After market AC's are mostly for looks no mater what is says on the box

Don't put a hypercharger on your bike please; they're dirt traps.

Put me down for a SE Heavy Breather. And I got mine for the looks of it. I figured if I had to change it for the pipes, I wanted it to look like it and not just the cover.

thats a very good point about the dirttrap and that k&n is sexy as hell im definatly going to keep looking though

S&S single bore tuned .........

HYPErchargers are crap. I've got a Johnson Engine Technology breather. Great performer. Been thinking about the Heavy Breather just to get my knee off the breather cover.

Sad to say really but Arlen Ness has a new AC out that really looks nice, not his typical stuff.

I run a Ness Big Sucker on the SG and a forward turned Spike Are Intake on the Softail.

Thinking about an S&S Single Bore Tuned Induction system on the SG.

Unless your changing your pipes and adding a power comander, I'd say save the money. I've used and like power the big sucker and the stealth(which uses a stock cover)

If you go with the HD Heavy Breather you might consider a cover. I cant tell any difference with the cover on or off.

Check out the Outlaw HiFlow 587's. It is a performance oriented A/C that has a lot of different options on looks.

If all you're doing is the air cleaner, as the chart shows below, you will pick up a bit of torque down low, and a respectable amount up high.

If you do fuel management, air cleaner and pipes (commonly referred to as a Stage 1) you will get a strong bump in power across the entire RPM range.

Everyone discusses the H-D heavy breather, but I went with the SE Ventilator. Just a tad less airflow for 3/4 of the price. :) Every bike mechanic that I've talked to about getting the HB, after seeing my Ventilator, asked why? No point. :)

Purchased the 587 for my XLC today. Looking forward to install and seeing how it rides!
