Default Ringing Sound

Lately it has been in the 80's here in the Atlanta area. On the hot days when the bike has been riden a lot. I hear a tuning fork type constant ring that is coming from the rear of the motorcycle.

Any ideas what this is????

You should've tuned your bike with a SERT/PCIII/FuelPak.... not a fork.
Remove tuning fork immediately, the sound will disappear.

Sorry. Couldn't resist.

Are you wearing ear plugs? That ringing might not be the bike.

Could be your rear brake singing. I've been struggling with that on my RG for the past few weeks. Used De-squeak and it works for a while but the squeal comes back. I think the next thing I will try is grinding the leading edge of the brake pad. I'm not sure if this is covered under the warranty. I'll have to give the dealer a call before I start grinding.

Going fast, slow? Does it go away if you gently tap the rear brake? By weaving/leaning left and right does the sound change?

Going fast or slow it does it. Doesn't stop when you tap the brakes. It only does it when it is hot outside and yes the sound changes while leaning either direction.

Same problem here but I only hear it when I'm next to a metal guard rail. I guess the sound is reflecting back at me and amplifies the ringing. I had this once before and went away when I installed different baffles. Just a guess but it could be your baffles may need to be tightened up. Not sure what the ambient temperature has do do with it but itwould effect the thermal expansion characteristics of the pipes and baffles.

I've had the same thing, especially so in hot, hot weather. The best I can figure out is its a resonance caused by the side of the belt rubbing against the pulley on the wheel. My Sportster is a right side drive and I notice the sound comes mostly from the right side. You have a left side drive. Do you notice it more on the left?
