Update: '82 Tour Glide from Dad

It has been about 2 1/2 years since I posted this:

https://www.hdforums.com/forum/gener...se-needed.html

I have been a busy girl in that time. A couple of months after Dad passed, I became pregnant with my son and named him Thomas, after Dad. After I recovered from becoming a mom for the 2nd time, I took the rider training course, bought a Suzuki GZ250, joined a chapter of Women on Wheels, and have been riding almost every weekend since then. I used the remainder of dads money for a lovely wooden box for his ashes, motorcycle gear for myself, and the rest into modifications to his Harley so that I can ride it.

I have learned a lot about fixing and maintaining that machine myself since it's very difficult finding anyone willing to do quality work on an older bike. The Harley dealership refuses to even do an oil change on it.

Anyway, GOOD NEWS!!! I finally rode it! It was beautiful. So smooth, so loud, so big. I am in love with it. There couldn't have been a better parting gift. It felt like being home again. Another pretty cool thing: the bike, my daughter, and I appeared on the cover of Women on Wheels bi-monthly newsletter/magazine. I don't know if I would have progressed so quickly in 1 year if it wasn't for my fellow riding girl friend. She's been the best.

My next goal is to ride the Tour Glide across the country and back to scatter Dad's ashes along the way. I know I cannot hold on to him forever. I will have to wait until my kids are older though.

Anyway, thanks to all of the smart-asses and helpful riders for reading this and answering my noob questions.

Take care.

Great story and no better way to reconnect to Dad everytime you ride. He will keep you safe, listen to him.

Happy to see you got to ride it... enjoy that old shovelhead; FLT's are great machines and I'm going to try to snag one in a year or so.
