does the name "dyna" come from noteworthy advancements in frame construction. what were they thinking? that a bike with front and rear suspension and the motor somewhat isolated from the frame was truely "dynamic" ?

THANK YOU!

For years I've been trying to figure out what all the fluxy-wuxy flibbertygibbit stood for

Last Fall when I was coming home from a week long road trip, I stopped at a local watering hole. It was cold and windy (Oct in the Tetons) and as I was de-layering myself to use the mens' room, a nice fella asked me what I was riding. Told him a Goldwing. He said didn't have nearly the weather protection on his bike, and had put it away for the winter. I asked him what he rode, and he gave me the "FXLEHEODHEIOT" thing.

Now I can handle someone saying "Electraglide, Softail, Sportster, etc" but throw the alphabet at me and I'm completely lost. It's kind of like asking what kind of car someone drives and they spit the VIN at you

Thanks for the code

Default Actually....

FL referred to models with Floorboards and FX was for models with pegs...of course that was when it all first started so this is not 100% standard now. The H is for Handlebars/windshield.

For example FLHR

Floorboards
Handlebar mounted/windshield

Seems these lists are either wrong or outdated. Take the Slim for example. FLS... That doesn't fit any of these descriptions...

I always thought the FXSTS was a Springer Softail and the FXSTC was the Softail Custom.

Either way, I just call it my "Softail" or "Street Glide". The only bike I ever referred to it by the letters was my "FXR", people always seemed to know what that meant.
