Front tire wear
 

Ok tire experts, here is the problem. I have an 07 Fatboy running Michelin Commander II's front and rear. The front tire is way more worn on the right side (sitting on the bike) than on the left side. Bike does not appear to be out of alignment, as it tracks straight and true. Recently returned from riding about 1200 miles in the Smoky Mountains. Is it possible that I just lean more on the right side? Up in the mountains there is no such thing as a straight road.
Just wonder what else may have caused the uneven wear....

What tire pressure are you running, and how often do you check it? I know here in Texas the roads are all crowned pretty good and the left side of front tires wear faster than the right...

Running 36 psi front and 42 rear. Bike handles good, and I thought I knew how to ride, but maybe I just didn't throw her around the left curves as hard since my left eye aint as good as the right...just one possibility. Gonna try and get a pic on here.

Get your alignment checked.

You might also want to check the fork tubes where they stick up through the top tree that they're even. Might be that one side the clamps have come loose or are just adjusted incorrectly.

I've never seen it do that on a Harley, but on *many* rice-burners I have seen it...and no, it's not because of a crown in the road, the 'crown' and subsequent angle of the road going from the crown to the side of the road would have to be outrageously crazy of an angle, one that would make one think you were on the side of a steep mountain in a jeep.

Ever since the MoCo started putting fat tires on the rear, the alignment has suffered.

Get a tape measure out and you will see that your front tire is not center between the forks.

the 07 FB has an offset on the front end due to the companies haste to get the 200 rear end out. a closer look will show it, the reason the cow bells are cutout on the inside. it was corrected in 08. 07 is a mutt, search the forum, lots to read about it

Thanks for the replies. I will check out the alignment and the fork protrusion through the triple tree...I am well aware of the "Red headed step child" nature of my 07 Fatboy...I bought it new. It does have the weird "not centered in the fork" front end. This has always bugged me, but has not caused abnormal tire wear in the past. I switched to Michelin Commander II's both front and rear. So far (about 12-14k miles) the rear has held up way better than the Dunlop tire it replaced. The front has worn out faster than the Dunlop front tire. Hope I can figure it out...

If the tire used a softer compound (read: better grip and handling than stock) then it will wear down faster.

Tires are a compromise between long lasting and better handling.

The more I look at it, the more I am thinking running 36 psi was too low. It is worn on both sides (just more on the one side) and not worn much in the middle. I will run a bit higher on the replacement and keep an eye on it....
