Default Help a dipstick read his dipstick

My new evo heritage has an oil temp dipstick. When checking oil do I want to see it between the tip of the stick and the line? Or above the line below the dot? See picture.

Almost certain it is the ring at the bottom. By the way. I find those dipsticks to be hard to read. I usually put my stock one back in to check the oil.

Yes they are a bit hard to see the actual level. No stock one here though.

Wink

You would be better off asking that in the Evo forum. How far are the dot and line from the underside of the cap? Someone with a stock Evo can measure theirs. I suspect the dot is the high mark and the line the 'FFS fill it up' line!

Checked on side stand With Oil HOT not warm Notch at the bottom is add, Notch at he top is full, Page 142.
Any where between the two is safe to start and get it hot for a proper check.

Stand the bike up vertical and look into the oil tank, the level should be about 1/2 inch below the bottom of the filler neck.

If it is at that level, put the bike back onto the jiffy stand, install the dipstick and check where the level is, now you know where the correct level is on the dipstick.

Helps sometimes to take a file and rough up the surface of the stick. Helps to see the level, especially with new clean oil. Oil sticks to the rough surface better.
