I have a Snap On roll cab but if I were gonna economize while building up a set of tools; I'd hit Craigslist for any kind of tool chest I had space for (even something cheap), then buy the best tools to put in it. The cheapest way to buy tools is to buy them once.

I've had one of the cheaper craftsman units overflowing with tools for ~10 years, works great.

I have the US General from Harbor Frieght. No issues whatsoever, great for just the average home garage mechanic

Lifetime collection - have an old RED Craftsman set that is not Ball bearing that is in the garage now. I have newer (15 years old) Black Craftsman set Ball bearing that is loaded and works well in my shop. Also Craftsman bench and 4 drawer lower chest for impacts and pneumatic tools. and I also have 2 General (Harbor Freight) Service cart tool chest - one set up SAE and the other Metric.
Craftsman has worked fine - I think it's about use and not abuse.

Two guys at work have this roll around. Holds a lot of tools, weight and work space on top really comes in handy.

Yeah it really does come down to what you want, what you can afford and what you need.

I have a couple of the black Husky boxes from Home Depot, picked them up at a discount because they were dented in the sides where nobody can see,I don't really care,I'm not the type that worships and polishes their tool box. Also did the no money miracle with their card, had a whole year to pay them off at no charge.

Can't afford Snap-On, but don't want HF quality. I was in this predicament myself not to long ago and wanted the best tools I could buy for the price, especially the Torx and Hex bits. Ran across this company called Tekton, making Snap-On quality tools for fraction of the price.Bought all my sockets, torque wrenches, and screwdrivers from them. For Torx and hex sockets I went with a company called Wiha, who supposedly makes some of the strongest Torx and hex bits available. All of these can be found on Amazon and they are some of the highest rated tools I could find for the price. I would stay far away from Craftsman, according to some they are now made with inferior metals that will strip, round out fasteners.

I'm Denny and I'm a tool-a-holic! Agree with most everyone.better tools and look for a used good box. Last snap on box I brought was in 1979. Sits in corner of my garage. Perfect. Full of snap on, Mac, Stanley, proto, some craftsman, and misc odds and ends. Had may $4 grand back in 70's....hate to think about cost now!
Buy what you need when you need it. Get best you can. You won't regret it
