Default How to get a quality paint job

I am purchasing some new bag lids from hogtunes for my 2012 FLXTK so I can mount 6x9 speakers. I got several quotes to have them painted to match my ember red sunglow paint. So far estimates are from $175 to $300. I only used highly recommended shops/individuals. The more expensive ones talked about sanding (twice) and base coats for red. My question is, what do I ask the less expensive place to be sure they are doing it right. They have many happy customers. Thanks!

Most people don't know a good paint job, or that a paint job is crap. So asking them their process won't do much unless you cab see their work.

This is why I called places that were highly recommended. I figure they cannot be too bad then...

I just ordered some hardbags for my Softail. I have leather bags, but want a different look now. I have checked many places and have gotten some variety in pricing ($900-$1600). I know I'm gonna pay more than I want to, but I won't let a shop do it unless I can see some of their work. I don't want to be dissatisfied just to save a few bucks.

Generally with auto body and paint you get what you pay for. I'd get three or four estimates of the reputable shops and go with your gut on who you choose. You can usually smell **** a mile away.
