Default 2018 Softail Passenger Foot-pegs

If you haven't replaced the passenger foot-pegs yet on a 2018 yet, here are some things to keep in mind:

First pic - This is what they look like disassembled. (NOTE - also shown is the ball bearing you are going to launch across your garage or workshop and never see again).

Second pic - This is inside the foot-peg mount.

Third pic - This is the hole where the spring goes in on the foot-peg (and after-market pegs as well).

Fourth pic - This is where the ball bearing (that you're gonna lose) will sit in the foot-peg on top of the spring.

Last pic - This is the replacement package of ball bearings (2) that you can get at Menards for $.46 cents. They are 1/4" in size. Could not find them separately at Harley....was told I would have to purchase the whole assembly.

When re-installing the foot-pegs, ENSURE you apply enough pressure to compress the ball bearing into the spring (and keep it compressed). I used a small flat tip screwdriver. Cover the hole the dowel goes through otherwise the ball bearing will launch out of there as you are trying to maneuver it on the mount (ask me how I know!).

Hope this helps someone...anyone.

The detent ball and detent spring are available from H-D. (50500707 for the detent ball and 50500706 for the detent spring) They cost approximately $1.60 CAD each.

I also learned the hard way and had to use a magnet to find the ball bearing that flew across the garage floor. When later I changed the stock pegs to chrome ones, I used a small vise grip to compress the whole mechanism as I slowly pulled the foot peg out from the mount, leaving everything clamped together prior to disassembling the parts on the bench. Then I used the vise grip to clamp the spring and ball mechanism around the new foot peg and installed it without a hassle.

I want to remove the footpeg support bracket to mount a saddlebag mounting point. Any tips? I am not trying to replace the foot pegs at this point.

On my 2018 Fatboy the bolt holding that bracket had lots of thread locker from the factory. I had to heat it up with a pencil thin blow torch flame to get it out. You'll also need an allen socket with a longer bit to reach the head of the bolt holding the bracket in place. Hopefully yours won't be as tight as mine was.

Allen socket? Mine is a t40 torx. Snapped it in 5 seconds flat. Looks i need a stronger bit. I’ll have to try to heat it up too. They must have used a whole tube of thread locker on in.

I just threw a rag over the entire assembly and pulled it out to let the ball fly into the rag. Did the same thing when installing the Pegs Felt this was much easier to do than using any tools

Where and what pegs are you using? My 2018 Heritage Classic has much wider peg mounts and I'm not finding anything that fits.

I was hoping to be able to swap out the passenger pegs on my 2020 Heritage with the HD Mini Footboards #50500109 but am learning they are not compatible. The passenger mount changed with the 2018+ softail's and I can't find a newer version of the Mini Footboard that is compatible?

I'm not crazy about the current kuryakyn options, and having to spend about $250 extra in HD Brackets & Hardware alone to be able to then use traditional footboards is ridiculous imo...

Anyone have success putting on TwinCam Softail Passenger Peg mounts on their 2018+ Softail? Or know of an aftermarket adapter out, I didn't have any luck googling, lots of adapter options but none that looked specific for using the older style pegs on the new platform?
