Default Help with chrome trim piece

Could someone tell me what this piece is called? Am trying to find replacement for my husband's bike. Thank you in advance for any help.

Here are some reference links start with:

Hard to tell from the picture if there is any damage but a good cleaning product like Flitz or similar polish might clean the chrome and two rusted screws nicely.

Hope this helps and good luck.

I believe the PN is 66034-96. Obsolete but can still be found. Here are a bunch on ebay. If it's metal you might just check into getting them re-chromed (unless it's lost) Hope this helps.

That part is getting very pricey when the owner knows what he has.

So what is its purpose, side cover protection? I ask as mine seems to be scuffed in that area by wifes boots.
