unless the scavenge pump sucks, hard to wet sump at idle!
oil cooler is a good idea even if you do not really need one. if you buy the thermo-pellet type, is what it is. i run hard so i removed the by-pass. normal running 140>180*f run hard iffy 220*f winter 90>120*f.
my 1974 ch never had an oil filter nor cooler until a few years back. i converted an engine mount to oil filter plate and add a ford power steering pump oil cooler. machine had over 150k and now going on 175+k on the clock. i added them since i had a bird in hand and up'd the ponies and compression and running longer duration cams up to 7.5k. now the hd will wet sump then for sure. at high rpm, c/c pressure tend to equalize so less diff'l to move oil.

Same here. I wouldn’t let my car idle for that long much less my air cooled motorcycle, with or without an oil cooler. I shut mine off waiting at a train crossing if it looks like I’ll be stuck there more than a few minutes. If a seller told me he deliberately let his HD idle for twenty minutes I’d be walking away from that deal.

I live in N. Georgia. It gets very hot. I get stuck in creeping traffic quite often. To ease my fears, I installed Love Jugs. It does give me a good feeling to feel that air blowing across the jugs when sitting idle. They have a lot of videos on their site showing various conditions, including the fans running underwater. One test has the bike sit at idle for 24 hrs (i think) while monitoring oil temperature.
You might want to take a look.
