Loose shifter linkage !
 

Common problem I know but is there a way to remove the 'pawl' lever without splitting the cases ? 06 R.G....b.

I am guessing that you have a 2006 Road Glide.
By "pawl Lever" i will guess that you mean the lever on transmission shaft rod (part 33849-97) .
By splitting cases, i guess you mean: do you need to remove the outer and inner primary?
Most times the lever strips and not the shaft.
A 2006 touring might still be a 5 speed...A factory 6 speed touring bike has a dent on back of primary that makes removal much easier.
If it is a 5 speed then, you may wish to consider changing bolt only first part # 856A and see if that resolves the situation.
If that does not work then it is either the inner and outer primary removal or the pricey Buehler Better Lever

5speed right enough, bolt is tight but I still have 'movement' on the shaft. Googled the problem and came across a post on this forum from 2014 and the guy who 'posted' managed to remove the lever with the cases intact. Have to go back and see what year he was working on. Thanks for your answer...b.

Follow up to my post...the bike that was 'fixed' without removing the primary was a 97. Baker transmission has a 'lever' for $64, save on H.D. $2OO odd !...b.

The Harley part number provided earlier is the factory lever part at under $30.
The Baker part is much stronger and is about $64.
Both require the inner and outer primary to be moved to make room for lever to slide off the shaft and allow installation of new lever on a 5 speed touring.
The Buehler Better lever does not require movement of primary but it is much more money.

Yep, I think the Buehler is the one i'll go with...b.

They work well. You will need a Dremel tool or something to cut the old lever off.

They all go bad if not snugged up once in a while.

My fix? -new lever plus drill it and out a roll pin in it.
PS- pulling the outer and inner is not a very hard job.
Plus you get a free inspection.

Haven't got the tools needed for a strip down and the 'Dremmel' fix looks within my capabilities. Thanks for your input...b.

It requires no special tools unless you consider a socket a special tool......
You will pay someone a LOT more then what a socket will cost if you send it out.
