Last time I changed my brake pads on my XL they squealed like heck. Now I'm about to change them on my Heritage Softtail. Can someone recommend the correct type to not repeat the squeal.
Be careful on the use of brake grease.... a little goes a long way! And you might try to bevel the leading edge of the brake pad. The squeal is from vibration, and if you bevel or chamfer the leading edge of the brake pad material, that will help eliminate a square surface.
I had a neighbor, an older gentleman, who changed the front disc brakes on his Cadillac. He saw the small tube of brake grease in the pad kit, so he applied it. On the brake pads. On the pad surface!! Next day he had the front jacked up and looking at things. I wandered over and asked what was going on.... he showed me and told me what he did. I gave him some brake kleen and showed him how to use it. He spent good couple hours cleaning his mess up!!! And thanked me alot!!
I like EBC but they give a scrubbing sound. Thsts how if figured out at what speeds when apply just rears the linked braked actuated the fronts…cause I could her the fronts apply.
Never had any EBC pads squeal, and I’ve replaced many on different bikes. But I did have a sidecar rig that the front disc w/OEM pads squealed really bad. The CRC disc brake quiet ( like chetB posted) fixed that ( applies to back side of pads). Silicon rubber may work same dunno.
