Visiting Harley Museum

I'm planning my summer vacation to the States, and looking to fly into Chicago (before carrying on to Denver).

One option I'm looking at is to spend a couple of days stopping over in the Chicago area and visiting the Harley museum in Milwaukee. My questions are, is there a good transport link between O'Hare and Milwaukee (ie train) or would I be better off (safer?) hiring a car and driving up myself?

The States are way bigger then you think, rent a car and drive. Stay on the correct side of the road and have a good time.

i would rent a car, that way you can go where you want,,when you want. however the train station is right next door to the museum.

Thanks guys.

This will be my fifth "touring" vacation to the states so I'm getting used to driving on the "wrong side of the road".

Plan at the moment is to fly to Denver (flight change at Chicago), hire a car (or bike) head west over the Rockies towards Monument Valley, then north towards Zion NP, then back to Denver via Bryce NP, Moab and Aspen.

Original plan was to stop over in Chicago for only a few hours, but when I realised Milwaukee was only about 90 miles up the road, I thought "take a few days and visit the Harley Museum". Hence the reason for my question.

The Museum is worth the time and expense to go see. I can do an entire day there and feel like I missed half of the place. It is our mecca, go see it. Also take a drive buy HQ, get a picture at the Main Entry brick stairs. it will be worth it. Then go out west, which will be 100% better riding and completely different experience. Good luck.

Also try and do it on a Thursday when Bike Nite is going on. I live a half mile from the museum PM if you have any questions.

Doing the museum is a much better plan than doing Chicago. Especially since you have a day or two to spend there!

Thanks.

To bad you can't fly into Milwaukee. Your not far from the museum at the airport. The HD Museum is a worth while visit. Been there many times and will be there again. There are several bus services Chicago to Milwaukee. Also the Train from Chicago to Milwaukee stops at Milwaukee station and is not far from Museum . Car rental right at the station also. Not that far a walk really.

Only way I know to get to Milwaukee from O'Hare by train requires you to change trains in downtown Chicago. Car would be easier, and allow stops anywhere else you want to go.
