Really enjoyed reading this thread! I bought a 2009 Sportster 1200 Nighter edition and am having a Frankenstein trike kit installed. I currently ride a Can Am Spyder and wanted to go to "the other end" of the trike world. Will be interesting to compare and contrast the two machines.

I can give you what I thought of the 2. I ride a Frankenstein Trike and have a buddy that has a Spyder so we have switched bikes. They are 2 completely different animals mine feels like your riding a motorcycle. When we travel and switch it's hard for me to get my trike back. For me that spyder feels like I'm on my snowmobile.

Yeah two completely different animals. Think the Spyder will remain for long distance comfort but the trike for just ripping down the highway fun! LOL Just have to find a bag for the back for at least a little storage.

just an update
I have not yet converted my 2005 sporty into the trike yet but I am headed to hammer performance on May 20th to get some carb work done and a new air cleaner. The reason I have not done the conversion yet is I wanted to get some miles on the sporty first to make sure the motor and other stuff is good and it is. I have changed out the clutch, added 12 inch apes, put on the DK speedo relocate (which looks great) made a special mount for my GPS changed all the fork oil, engine and trans oil and have rebuilt the whole brake system, The sporty is now ready for the conversion as soon as I can sell my freewheeler which I am getting no response from the adds. It may be a hard sell as it has 65,000 miles on it so I may have to keep both

Tires are 265/50/15 and I got 28900 miles on a $26 brake pads. I change the pads every 3 years regardless I also flush the brake lines every other year also.
