Any experience with Dyna and sidecar?

Have a 2009 Dyna that I want to install a sidecar onto. I have been riding hacks for the last 25 years. Mostly Triumph with Watsonian and Kawasaki KLR with offroad DNC sidecar.

My wife became very ill a few years ago, she was unable to ride, so i went Off-road.

Recently her health as improved that she may once again ride in a "road rig."

Looking at the Champion avenger.. (the door helps).

I know DMC is big on their 72 series, but a Ural knock-off is hard for me to bite on.

Have an opportunity to purchase a Harley sidecar as well. Anyone have experience with a Dyna Hack, please chime in.

Anyone match a Harley sidecar to a Dyna?

Cross country 3 times in this rig with my beloved PTSD dog Maggie. She passed away last month

This is how my Dyna was when I bought it. 2006 FXD & sidecar. Eventually I sold the sidecar to a friend. I still have the Mamba reverse gear setup available and sitting in a box in my garage.

Classic sidecar being fabricated

Thanks for the reply. I have ordered a DMC Classic. It will be ready in August. I plan to trailer my Dyna to WA for the joining. I have been struggling to purchase a trailer that will fit the rig. A lot depends on the mounting hardware from sidecar to bike. The width of these is often unknown until the actual mounting. I know the classic is 39" wide overall, so I added the Dyna width and estimated the mounting hardware width based on my past experiences with Sidecars. I purchased a Featherlite all aluminum 78" wide by 120" long bed. We will see, HA!

Good luck with your project. Mounting the hack on a DYNA is no problem at all. It will handle it well. Post up some pictures when it is all done.

hey thanks smitty901. I was a bit worried because of little space for mounting, and quite a bit of shaking going on with that 96

When We put one on my 1996 Fatboy lot of people said it could not be done. It was not hard to do and stayed on it for 3 years. Now it is on a 2015 Hd Street 750. Again many said no way can't be done. Works prefect and will run down the road 80 mph if you want.
A Hannigan Classic twin is going on out 2017 RGU this winter. The bike is in now getting front end rake and trail done.
Your Dyna may not need a raked tree. But a simple steering stabilizer may be a plus. keep us posted on how it goes Sidecars are great when done right.

Ha, Sometimes adversity makes us appreciate a little more what we have. That Triumph with that big Watsonian came with a bungee (supplied by the dealer at no extra cost). The bungee was wrapped around the left handlebar and left footpeg. I was told that that is common????? And told that for different weights in the rig I needed to wrap the bungee tighter or looser. Ha, I went all over the USA with my Bungee and sidecar before I decided to "learn" a little more by reading old (and in some cases, very old) Sidecar setup manuals. I will never accept another bungee steering assist, but on the other hand I think it gave me the ability to learn how to "muscle" a few rigs without needing a bunch of help. I know it is a different animal than the KLR rig, but even off road (which is its intended primary purpose, that car runs straight. In first gear, I can take my hands off the bars, and no wobble. (Having said that I also realize that top speed in first gear on a KLR is somewhere around 0.0005 MPH).

My latest project is to ready the featherlite trailer I purchased to get the bike from AZ to WA, joined, and back. I purchased one of those Condor/Harley Pit chocks. They are indeed fantastic.

Looking forward to sharing experience with others that either already know the joy of a hack or are look in to it. IMO far more useful than a trike in many ways and when done right they handle just fine.
Currently looking for a car tire to try on the to replace 130/90-16 on the side just to try it. The low end tire on it has lasted almost 5,000 miles and has some life left yet.
The Classic twin will have the electric camper control on it also.

What is an electric camper control? I used a car tire on my Watsonian. Got it from England (they have some little cars) Can you post a picture of your rig, rigs?

The electric camer control till allow you to chnage the angle of the sidecar wheel on the fly allowing better handling on some road.
This was when the sidecar was on 1996 FB and the Street 750 it is on now. The one I am getting is like the Blue on in the picture it will come from Hannigan .
