Been caught in a few surprise snows in my younger days ... It sucks when you come out to the scooter and have to brush the snow off the seat ... makes for an "exciting" ride home ... Too old for that now !

Only way to do snow is with studded tires. It can be a real blast though.

Here is my 84 XT600 Yamaha ( Ice Bike ) the tires are wrapped to keep the studs sharp ( Studs are Kold Kutters )

When I was young and invincible we would take the dirt bikes out, but it was off road, not street. Snow made for softer landings...

With my 97 xl it's quite easy with it's small 130/90/16 rear tyre.
I'll never try with my FLHTC and it's huge rear tyre ...

Only one time, never again. I rode to work one winter when it was dry on the road, (car broke down as I was supposed to head to work) Work was 60 miles away. Between the time I got to work and the time I was off duty the temp had dropped from 40 to 25, freezing rain turned to ice then 2-3 inches of snow on top of it. That's not counting places where the winds caused drifts in the road. Wife couldn't come and get me, so it was either stay at work or try to ride home in it. I was younger then and thought why not try it, just ride slower. I was the only motorcycle on the road. I saw cars that had slid off the road on the way home. The county I lived in had declared some kind of snow emergency, advised people not to be on the roads unless absolutely necessary. There were times I slid a little but I managed to not spill it. Throttle control is crucial. I left work at 9am, and it was sometime in the afternoon by the time I got home. When I got home a few of the neighbors who were shoveling or blowing snow gave me a WTF look. Unfortunately I don't have any pics or video. The neighbors couldn't take pics or video with cell phones because most people didn't have them, and the ones that existed just made phone calls. My wife later told me she talked to one of the neighbors, and she said her husband saw me come home. He said to his wife, "That's one crazy hard core biker!" LOL

Before I left work, one of the Paramedics insisted I give them a call to let them know I made it home okay. I later found out he wasn't concerned for my safety. The other personnel and some of the cops in the PD next door had a pool going about when or how far I would get before dumping it or crashing into something. Not would I wreck but when and where.

LLH,

Interesting (and scary) story !

I was originally asking about a trike or bike/hack combo. I keep thinking I'd ride in subzero weather on chosen days,(not overly cold/very little snow falling) but being in the snowbelt up here, sometime we literally get a foot of snow out of nowhere. I'd never ride my 2-wheeler in the snow, but I'm guessing there's no bike/trike/hack that would be able to cope with that. Even a Ural Gear Up's side car would bottom out.

Maybe it's just a pipe dream.
