Voyager Kit
 

Anyone have any experience with the Voyager Trike add-on kit? My father-in-law took a liking to an Ultra at the dealership that had a kit on it....supposedly can be taken on and off in minutes. Just curious.

I have a friend that did the voyager kit on his 105th ultra classic. He had both legs crushed and could not hold the big bike up. It looks pretty neat and it handles pretty well. He had problems with left turns, but after a little practice all is OK. You do loose clearance with the kit brackets. Even if you take the kit off you will loose clearance if you don't remove the bracket. That could be a major chore. The bike will lean. I have seen the outside tire come off the ground in curves. Dave told me it was like starting to learn all over how to ride. There are some things that are just different. The good thing about the kit, Dave is back on the bike and going places.

Looking into a Voyager kit myself. The injuries I got in the line of duty have finally caught up with me but I am not going to quit riding. Can't afford a Tri-Glide and even the full conversions are outta my price range. The few Voyagers that I've seen don't look all that bad. Anyone else have any comments on them?

I had one a few years ago on 05 Electra Glide and it was a big hassle. The preload would come out on every jolt or big bump. It may have been the one I had because my brother had one on his Goldwing with no issues

Have a Voyager kit on a 1996 softail. Good solid platform ¼ the cost of try glide. Does take some getting used to, technique of riding, powering the turns by not leaning but steering the bars.
I had problem with preload until got it dialed in then set the torque to 35 ft/lbs on all 8 nuts. So far no problem. Riding the trike as much as my 2008 Road King.
Can remove in about 5 minutes with two bolts and disconnect the wiring for the lights. I am very pleased with the kit.

Thinking about "trike-ing" my wife's '08 Heritage Softail.

The Voyager would be the cheapest way to go (and easiest reversal) but I'm leaning towards a Frankenstein conversion unit at not quite double the price of the Voyager.

If anyone has converted to the Voyager, how much of drop in MPG's did you've kept track.

Having a Tri-Glide myself I know they don't get great mileage in comparison to a two-wheeler but I'm actually more concerned about the fuel tank range than I am on MPG's.

I think my wife's '08 Heritage has a 4.2 gal fuel capacity and if the MPG's drop down to 32 (or so) like my T/G fuel stops would be near the 100+ mile range which would be a IPA on a long trip and especially so in rural areas.

After searching every friggin trike for sale site in the tri-state area since January I found a Voyager kit attached to an XL1200. It doesn't look too bad and it's within my price range so all I gotta do is make the deal. Kinda pissed that my 99 Ultra didn't bring more for the trade-in but that's life. If all goes well I'll be back in the wind in a few weeks.

I looked at the Frankenstein kits myself and they ain't cheap. For me, there is the added cost of finding someone to install as I ain't the mechanic my Dad is. I also am wondering about the MPG.
