Default ABT very bad experience

A friend of mine is going through a horrible experience with these guys, we were on his first trip with one of the Heritage trailers and the wheels (spindles) bent in and down, taking the tires down to the cords, absolutely no explanation to this failure except poor design and materials. The Spindles are 8.8 metric low grade bolts, holding the wheels on is just the plastic lock in a common lock nut, the bearings are as cheap as you can buy . Read his warranty real close, as soon as you use the trailer it's out of warranty. He has basically been blown of by these guys, they are nothing short of con experts ! There is so much more to the story but you get the idea, STAY AWAY !

You get what you pay for. There is a very good reason why something like a Bushtec cost 2 or 3 times as much.

The 8.8 is the grade or strength designation for a metric bolt, same specs as a grade 5 in SAE, the diameter is 16mm or 5/8, still very light. At least an effort could have been made to increase strength by using a grade 10.9 or which would be a grade 8.

I have a Bushtec Quantum Sport and have had to replace bearings for maintenance. If I remember correctly the "axle stud" is @ 16mm ( 5/8 ) and the axle nut is of the nylon lock type and requires a drop of blue Loc-Tite for retention. The trailer is not designed to carry "all your worldly possessions" and I'm sure that they've engineered the specific parts to do the job adequately ... just my .02 cents worth.

Hey Uncle Larry, yes you do have the same spindle size as the Heritage, but the key difference is yours is a Bushtec, seems they also had some spindle problems in the past and corrected them, I'm sure they are not using the very cheapest materials available, apparently the Bustecs are also lined up correctly and so on, never seem to hear anything about them, all goes back to you get what you pay for, sometimes ! Doesn't seem to be the case with the Heritage's, remember the damage I spoke of had the spindles bent down and in, indicating a towed in situation that got worse with every mile, every bounce, every side to side thrust kept bending them to the point were it was not able to be pulled any longer. Seems others on this thread had very similar damage, bald tires after very low miles, etc. The trailer was loaded very light, in fact he was almost able to pack everything on the bike because the bike was loaded light. The local Harley shop was outstanding as they came and hauled the trailer back to their shop and were a tremendous help to us. And all this is bad enough but Dan at ABT has brushed them off and blamed it on the customer. Communication with them is almost non existent and it's always with a condescending tone of "why are you bothering me again" ! The total lack of customer help is astounding with these guys, reading some other posts, seems everyone else has had the same experience ! Enjoy your Bustec , I'm sure you will have thousands of trouble free miles !

Go for an American Legend. We went over 11000 mi this year. Was great. Even thru 50 - 60 mi cross winds, never felt it sway.
