With stock pipes I usually drill them out and remove cats
Heavier still than after market but just as effective

Hi guys. New to the forum. Just bought my first ever Harley after four non-Harley's. Picked up the new '17 RK Special. Love this bike. Too quiet though. Replaced the mufflers with Supertrapp Kerken Stouts. Performance upped a bit and I love the sound quality but sound still too quiet. Was thinking about removing baffles but don't want to lose performance. Next best idea is to replace headers and get a stage 1 air cleaner and tune but $1,700 for that work. Anyone have any experience with these mufflers and can tell me how much louder they will get with time and burn off of packing? Thanks guys. Love the blog!

Hagg22, you might get a better answer if you post in the Touring section. This section is for the Street 500/750 series of bikes.

On the muffler what size is the inlet, is it 1.75 of an inch? ?

It would help with a choice of a slip on muffler from Super Trapp.

hi oldphat. The new 17 RK has different size header ends on each side. Curious for sure - no idea how they balance the exhaust output. I didn't measure the inlet though - sorry. It's probably 2" on the right and 1" on the left. Something like that.

Not suppose to be balanced . The system is designed to scavenge exhaust favor one side to help raise low end torque . Little trick HD has been using for some time.

Wow. Totally cool. Thanks for the scoop smitty. Love that kind of thing. I seem to remember reading something about that somewhere. Really appreciate your knowledge. I'll do more reading.

As for the Street 750 . Mine came with a Bassani pipe on it. Looked good but the sound sucks IMO. I was just loud. removed it hung it on the bad Idea wall and out stock back on for now.
Looking at a HD night stick down the road for it. The Street is never going to have the sound you may expect from other Harleys.
It is an 8000 Rpm engine and you can use every bit of that. As of now you can not purchase the exhaust (Header and pipes) V&H makes for the 750 Street Flat tracker.
Put front brake back , some lights and I want it.
