More Bike?
Hello Street Fans,
I know all of you know that I really love my little 500. I think I need a Dyna now. Any thoughts? After a year of riding solo I joined a group of baggers. I was riding my hoglet like a dirt bike. Shifting, throttle twisting etc... I would like to know what you people think of a now discontinued Dyna....

I really enjoy the light feeling of Street 500. I can park it in my house and ride it out the front door. I can back it up (low seat) and lean it in the twisties. If I could have 2 bikes its a no brainer. I can have only one.
I really dig this forum. I do not have any buddies to bounce ideas off of.

Ride your bike, and don't let the crowd convince you otherwise. The Street 500 has limits, sure, but wait until you find those limits yourself. If you do, you'll have a MUCH better idea of which bike is right for you; it may not be a Dyna; it may not even be a Harley!

The Streets are cool bikes but if a big cruiser is what you want, then do it. I've ridden a few Dyna's and I'm not a fan just because the frame isn't near as rigid for my corner carving plus forward controls are great for comfort but you sacrifice allot of control of the MC plus turning lean angle and if your a weekend canyon carver like me, then a cruiser is a no go. I traded my Street-Rod in this past weekend for an XR1200 Sportster. My grievance was long ride comfort. The XR is more suited to the style of riding I do on my long trips. I've heard the standard Streets are pretty comfy though.
There is allot of great bikes out there that aren't Harley's as well... I've crossed over after 10 years of riding Japanese super standard bikes (FZ6, FZ1, Bandit 1200, GSX1250FA, B-King/GSX1300BK) and the upright seating position allows the bike to wear allot of hats well. Throw some highway pegs on a standard bike with a good saddle and I can throw down 1000 mile days with the cruiser guys and leave them in the dust once the road turn curvy.
Not sure where you live... but if you were in wide open country a cruiser might no be a bad choice.

buy based on your skill and the type of riding you do, not so much what you think you need. go test ride some sportsters, dynas, and new 2018 softails. also test ride indians (scout bobber!), bmws, and whatever else you can get your mits on. your next bike will not be your last.. test rides are free!
for me...
my first bike was a vt500 and an 883 felt like a rocket ship/chainsaw compared to it. after an 883-1200 upgrade.. it was the same jump... bigger rocket ship/chainsaw.
i bought a 103 dyna and was confused icon_confused: for a while.... then i "got it". not exactly the best for around town riding... but, take it out to a backroad stretch or a highway and hold on. that torque will try to break your neck. much smoother and pleasant on highways with loads of usable power right where you want it on the interstate. big clumsy bike in to and tight roads. reduced lean angle, greater weight, questionable suspension, reliability issues if not maintained well, heat maximus, BUT... there's something unexplainable there.
took me nearly 2 years to bond with and love my dyna. sporty was love at first ride... i still dote on it and ride it more. it is my best friend. love that little guy.
