For the most part, I think the video is right on the money. I know alot of guys and they are in the older segment of motorcycle buyers. They used to buy a Harley, keep it 3-5 yrs, and trade it in for a new one. Nowadays the thought is, the dealers don't want to offer them much for a trade in so they just keep it. My bike is 12 years old and I don't have plans to replace it with a new one. Motorcycle sales in general are down in all brands. Younger people go for the cheaper sport bikes that will handle better then a Harley, and do 160 mph right out of the box with no additional work needed. Younger people aren't even buying cars like they used to. I know several that don't have drivers licence's. I ask them about that and they say it's cheaper to use uber. But they spend a fortune on cell phones. The future of Harley is uncertain. If no one is buying what your selling, you have to sell something else to stay in business. In the last year I've seen more leftovers on the dealers showroom floor then ever before. I'm guessing the new motor that came out had something to do with that. So for the next 15 years or so that's what the company is betting on that will keep them going. I hope they're right.,,,

At 6:27 he shows a picture of a young rider and and older rider side by side and says that HD can no longer capture young riders. The problem is that in the picture the young rider is not on a Harley, my best guess is that it is a Triumph.
Honestly who amongst us had a Harley as their first bike when they were young? Certainly not me. Harley is many things, a way of life, a status symbol, proof that you have arrived, to me at least it has never been a "starter bike".

I think the video is pretty accurate. I also believe that Harley is making great strides in aiming for the women and younger riders by offering the Streets and VRod bikes. These bikes are much easier to handle and still have the Harley build and power. These are also better suited to the urban commuter as opposed the tourers. The original "beasts" like the Dyna, Road King, etc. still have their loyal owners, but they are an older demographic.

When the dude who made that video has died of old age, Harley Davidson will still be making and selling motorcycles. People will still be getting Harley tattoos, buying imported T-shirts at 3 times what they should cost and "fixing" flaws on brand new motorcycles at their own expense. No other company in the history of mankind has had a deal like Harley does.
I'll put it this way; you look at billboard and commercial ads for the armed services. "Be all you can be", "Get help with college" and "Train for your career while serving your country". The Marine Corps? "Maybe you can be one of us"; it works every day of the week.
