My tear down occurred the week between Christmas and New Years day. It began with the introduction of intoxicating spirits, silent contemplation of what was about to occur and how it should proceed. Then it progressed to a ceremonial cleansing and lubricating of all the tools in the boxes followed by more libations and the burning of some gasoline in a metal shot glass as an offering and tribute to the chopper gods. Then the work began. By the end of the week everything was apart nuts, bolts, screws were bagged and tagged, and all remaining parts were labeled and separated as reuse as is or rechrome, repaint, rebuild or replace and tossed on the swap meet pile. By the end of the week everything was cleaned, degreased and hung up or boxed. They would not see the light of day again until sometime around April at which time with the help of a few buddies the finished machine would be carefully moved up the cellar steps and out into the sunshine like a butterfly wiggling out of its cocoon!
