I'm rebuilding a flooded XL1200C
Hey guys,
New member here. I decided to buy a Salvage title (Flood) 2007 Harley XL1200C last week to see if I can rebuild it or not. I really don't have much of a mechanical background at all so I will definitely need help along the way. I've decided to record and post this venture on youtube. I really haven't seen many that go into detail about what to do so that is why I have made the channel. Check it out if you have time and let me know what I need to do! First episode is up now and link is below. |
Take the spark plugs out and see if it will crank over.
If it cranks over and there is no water in the engine, you probably have a winner. |
Sounds like a fun project! Good luck and welcome from Pennsylvania :) |

Buy some water displacement spray/electrical contact cleaner and disconnect the electrical connectors that were below the waterline. Clean one at a time. Clean and treat the fuse block , front and back, using a toothbrush to get in the nooks and crannies would be great. From what I can tell looks like it didn't sit in the water too long. Maybe there are some books out there on restoring bikes you can read up on. Also check youtube for any applicable videos, i.e. changing fluids (oil, transmission oil, brake fluid).I would and this is me, spray some fogging oil in the cyl. at let that sit till you are ready to start it. If unsure how something goes back together, take picture of it for future reference. there a lot to do and trying to cover it on the web is a challenge. Buy a Sportster repair manual, that would help immensely.

Been buying flood salvage bikes cars and trucks for years. Have one bike now 6 years flood salvage.put 55 k on it. Biggest thing was cleaning all wiring than dielectric grease. Mine was a salt water ultra classic.... Best 2500 bucks. Spent. |
