Harley Davidson Forums - Son Receives a gift of a bike

Preface: I'm not a writer, although I was a C average in english.

So I'll start this out at the beginning. 17 years ago our mother died at the age of 40, shortly before she passed she had called into the local dealership and told them that her husband was interested in a new Dyna Super Glide (2003 model). Not long after the funeral my dad recieved a call that the bike was there for him to look at (he ws unaware up until this point). Of course he took it!

Fast forward several years: He married and living 2000 miles away. His garage has grown to include a few other harleys.

Our youngest brother was riding a 1993 Honda Nighthawk 750 for the last ten years. Right now it is parked and in need of due maintenance. He was essentially bikeless. So my dad gets this bug in his ear that sggested the '03 Dyna Super Glide isn't being ridden as much it should, so he contacts some of us other relatives and we arrange to ship the bike back to Wisconsin to give him a suprise of a lifetime.

The shipper brought it as far as Waukesha. So two of us drove down and grabbed it from a warehouse yesterday where it had been for a week and a half. (7 hours and nearly 400 miles round trip)

At the house we casually had some beers and showed him a box of parts that dad had shipped up from Cali. We remarked it was amusing that he "accidentially" dropped the owner's manuel in the box. After paging through, Phil had noticed that our dad left a handwritten message in the manual for him. At that moment Grandma hits the door butten and the bike is revealed.
