West Virginia and the New River Gorge - our best trip yet
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ud60U5wefLE
so here is our infamous (to our friends) West Virginia video in which we camped in the freezing cold, heard coyotes at night all around us, rode down into the Gorge, crashed, got lost, slept in an abandoned horse barn, woke to the sound of 2 men screaming about killing each other, and made it home in one piece. and yes, i was able to get most of it on video... |
Just seen it on youtube ,,,,good stuff,,,,the two guys fighting in the back ground had something to do with tequila i bet,,,lol,,,

Nice video, I've been through those parts .... next time you should have an eye view from the bridge but otherwise found it highly entertaining.

thanks for the props everyone.
to any video buffs interested, i used a GoPro Hero for the "fisheye" looking shots, as well as the one where the camera is hard mounted to the bike. For the handheld shots, I used the very small Kodak Playsport ZI6 (waterproof) or the Flip Mino HD. Both are super small and easily manageable on the bike. I just got an imac, so the footage was converted to Apple's ProRes 422 codec, then edited in Final Cut Pro. I color graded every shot in the movie to make it "pop" more. For instance, the sunrise of the second day was good in the original, but I just punched up the oranges a little to make it stand out more. I've said it before though and I'll say it again, if you want to take video on a bike, get the GoPro camera. As far as bang for your buck, and clarity of picture, you can't beat it. |
cro, i agree. at that point, and you can notice it on the video, every shot is from the gopro that was hard mounted to the pegs. Why? because stupid me forgot to charge the battery on my kodak the night before (i bring a laptop to charge on trips) and that was all i had for the day. looking down was incredible though.

Good vid. Back in the mid 80's I hauled coal up that Gorge road with a tractor-trailer. Made for some interesting days. You should come back next summer and try Greenbrier and Pocahontas counties.
