What's the SERT Bootloader?

Hoping SHB, OSE, or any other users might know what would cause the SERT to stop at the 25% Map Upload with:

Unable to Install Bootloader, Quitting!

I'm also wondering if the below information directly relates to the SERT's Software:

Flash boot loader:
Embedded systems especially in automotive applications rely heavily on Flash Bootloaders to ensure that the ECU(Electronic Control Unit) is programmable either in production or in service. A Flash Bootloader resides in Flash memory, and is always the first application to run after a reset. The Flash bootloader decides whether an application is ready and thereby either stays in the ECU or jumps to the application to start execution. The benefit of having a Flash Bootloader on an ECU is mainly to allow erasing and programming new applications on a single ECU in case of application updates, a recall, or changing a configuration by downloading new calibration files. The most popular Flash Bootloaders are CAN based, i.e. use the Control Area Network protocol to download data to an ECU. These bootloaders use a Diagnostics protocol to communicate and download to an ECU.

Thanks for any feedback!

Yes, that is the correct definition....

On occasions I have had the syatem Lock-Up while tuning....

Normally, 10 minutes will allow the ECM to reset....

2 times, the ECM was wiped out, and I had todo a Base install, to recover the ECM....

Quite painful.....

What's involved in a "base" install? I assume that it's something only a dealer can do?

Hey Darren!

Just helping a Bro that didn't have a laptop..........doing an '07 RK with the "J" software and for some reason kept getting the "Unable to Install Bootloader, Quitting!" My laptop and Belkin USB/Serial Adapter has worked flawlessly before so just not sure what's stopping the upload.

He's looking for an older laptop with Serial port and see how that works.

Hope your having fun! Weather's down the tubes here! [sm=smiley19.gif]

Pretty sure the "base" install would involve re-loading the stock calibrations into the ECM using the Dealer's Digital Tech.

Similar to what's involved when replacing an ECM.

Not sure its the same problem, but mine locked up once at 25%. I think it was due to static charge, but anyways the bike would not even turn over, just flash the service engine light and came up with "Corrupted OS". I Had the dealer down load the 903 Firmware updateand reloaded my mapand haven't had a problem since.

Does the bike start and run?

Bike starts and runs fine. Attempted several times, and it just hit a brick wall at the 25% point. When exiting Tuning Mode, we did get the Recovery Warning message, but didn't matter if we disconnected immediately or waited a few minutes the bike started and ran as we had never been connected.

Had the lamp and light fuses out with Battery Tender hooked to the bike, and the laptop was plugged into wall outlet; not running off battery.

Take the battery tender off. It could be throwing some trash on the 12v that is messing with the ecm.

Lee:

Thanks for the suggestion. We tried that previously and it made no difference.
