Non start Fatboy

My 2003 1450cc Fatboy has covered 6000 miles. It hasn't been ridden for 6 years but the engine is run up regularly and always starts immediately and runs perfectly.

4 years ago it didn't start one day and a friend said "It will be the crank shaft position sensor". He was right. I changed it and every thing was ok 'til last week when, again, it wouldn't start. Thinking it might be the same problem I took the sensor to 2 dealers for testing. The first said they can't be tested, the second said they'd tested it and it was fine!

Is there any other electrical component that can just fail when it feels like it? There is nothing wrong with the plugs, battery, starter etc. Something has simply decided to fail. I can't help thinking it could still be the sensor.

Why bother trying to start it at all?

A bike sitting for great lengths of time, could be several things. CP sensors can be tested but unlikely to fail from no use. Batteries and fuel can go bad over time. Old enough fuel without stabilizer can be a pita.

What that bike needs is a "For Sale" sign.
