Hi,

I have a 2007 Stock Softail. Does have Stage 1 upgrade but that's all. Bike starts right up when cold and sometimes when hot. Lately when hot I do not hear the fuel pump prime. It will crank strong but won't start. Once it cools down I hear the fuel pump prime and it fires right up. I've replaced the battery, both relays, fuel pump fuse, FOB battery and swapped ECM with a known good one. Same problem. I've tried pulling fuel cap, no change. Don't hear gas blowing around in the tank like a leaky fuel line. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

 

Try starting it as soon as you turn the ignition on, without waiting for the pump to prime.

 

Just cranks without starting.

 

Internal high pressure lines in the tank cracked/leaking, or possible clogged filter. Has the filter or lines been changed? Observe for spraying fuel when fuel cap removed. May also want to clean the IAC motor.

The IAC (Idle Air Controller) is on top of the throttle body just behind the A/C mounting flange. If you were to take off the A/C, you'll see a little opening at the top of the bore. If you turn your ignition and kill switch on while looking in the bore, you'll see a small probe like thing poke out and then pull back in. Try cleaning that liberally with throttle body cleaner.

 

Ok, I've cleaned the IAC and replaced all fuses, cleaned contacts with electrical circuit cleaner, reseated using dielectric grease. Bike runs great but problem not solved. The fuel pump still does not prime when hot. Fires right up when cold. Can ride all day without a problem. Turn bike off for a few minutes, fuel pump primes and starts right up. Let it sit 10-15 minutes, fuel pump will not prime until bike cools down for a good hour plus. No codes registered. I'm stumped folks, ideas?
