Amazing what can be done with plug gap and why the adage of more is better doesn't fit here either.
Jason, I have been using NGK since they offer a non-screw top plug equivalent to the V-rod plug which is 1 heat range cooler than the stock TC plug.

Not sure what you point is by example. It is valid but so is closing the gap or cooler heat range on hot starts when running a high compression motor that has everything else up to snuff. Especially without compression releases..
No point. Guess I just been working on stuff so long. Seen .035 - 065 depending on voltage. But see little difference when worn out as long as they are fireing.
Just replace a set of plugs in a Civic with 190k on the original plugs. The gap was over .100 .
Intakes where .003 or so over tolerance and exhaust where .002 under.
Ran no different when I adjusted valves and put in new plugs.
Timing before TDC is there due to spark and flame travel. (Not electrical travel) In degrees on crank. The gap of a plug say you change it .020 would equal so small a part of a degree, that it would be unmeasurable. I am curious. To what it is however.
