out riding and after 45 min, bike just shut down, then on road side it started back up and only made it 2 miles and shut down again, still had lights and bike would crank, but fuel lite did not come on and pump did not shut off in tank?? once at home it started right back up and only ran about 3 minutes and shut back down, any ideas??? 2001 Heritage EFI, motor built.

 

Pin hole in fuel line assembly inside the tank. The reason it's continually running is that it can't build the proper pressure with the hole in it.

 

that's what I am thinking, I have had that problem before, but then the bike would run real bad, but would keep running. now it is like you just shut it off, then let it sit and it will start back up and run good till it just shuts down, thought it might be a coil heating up, did switch that out and the same thing still happening?? also when it quits the motor light on my speedometer dose not come on at all??

 

sounds like fuel issue

 

It could also be a very dirty fuel filter, so check that also. I'm sure that it's one of those two but the fact that the fuel pump is running continually is the dead giveaway for me.
