1999 FLHRCI MM EFI Tank to use on 2004 FLHRCI Delphi EFI
I have a stretch gas tank kit and high end paint job on my 1999 Road King Classic (FLHRCI Magneti Marelli injection) that I blew the engine on. I am considering getting a very clean, low mileage 2004 Road King Classic (FLHRCI Delphi injection) to put my custom body work on. I have read that the gas tanks are not compatible...I'd like to know if that's true and if it is, is there a conversion set-up?

Since the fuel pump/pressure alone is 20lbs diff between Delphi and MM plumbing is different (internal (1 hose) vs exterior (2hoses) my guess is you will have more of a challenge to get it right than it is worth just for the paint job.
May be cheaper and less stressful to fix the bike you have now keeping the paint job.

Hey guy's, thanks for the feedback...I was thinking that there would be an issue with some fuel delivery/electronic specs but wasn't sure of what they were...I was also thinking about swapping out the internals but wasn't sure of any issues with that either and I've seen that you can plug the tank for one fuel line if converting to a carb set-up...but even so, I wasn't sure if that would do it.
Bob, Repairing my 99 really isn't an option, spun the crank plus the bike has about 100,000 hard miles on it...If the tank swap isn't a sure thing I can get a new stretch kit for the 04 tank and have it painted...
Hey DanDman have you seen this done?
Thanks again for the input!

The plate screw hole pattern matches up. The tank bungs have the same threads. I haven't seen the inside of a '99- tank, so I don't know if the internal fuel lines would interfere.
I'm planning on doing a '02-'06 fuel pump, sender, filter, etc. conversion on my '00. I'm running a S&S VFI, so I can run a '02+ fuel rail with a single line. The parts for the '00-'01 MM system are getting hard to find.
