Have you checked for stored codes?
If you have codes, write them down then clear them and try again.

There is some confusion in the information given about resetting the ECM. While it's well intentioned, I do not believe it's accurate. If an ECM has codes in it, it will still communicate - that's how you retrieve codes.
The only thing I can think that procedure referenced helping is a bike with electronic throttle that has learned an incorrect idle from being turned off with a hand on the grip. Also, it does not reset an ECM so it can accept any modifications as the article states. It does not clear codes or affect tuning calibration.

My M8 fatboy did that when I was setting up for a smart tune. Ran rough then stall but it would start again! So I did the Stage one install again and it runs great I'm afraid to do a smart tune again. Dealer said the motor is running great on my 1000 check up and I'm getting 43mpg. So If it aint broke don;t fix it!

My problem may be different, I did a few auto tunes several months ago without trouble. But recently I disconnected VCI when app seemed to be stuck trying to get bike/VCI setup to collect data. After that, the app won’t recognize the bike, thinks it’s not connected at all. I guess I’ll have to return the VCI for a new one. Luckily it’s still under 1-yr warrentee.
