Default Solenoid or Starter

Hi, been down 3 weeks now (scared to take to dealer) money a bit light. My 2013 Harley Ultra Limited w/7700 total miles will not start. I turn on and hit start button and get a clicking sound. Initially I assumed that my battery was weak and fully charged and still clicking sound and no start. How do I figure if it's the starter or solenoid and is the solenoid integrated in the starter? I have middle of the road mechanical ability, can I fix this? all responses appreciated...thanks

Clicking is the solenoid. Check for cable (pos & neg) tightness both ends.
Are lights and horn bright ands loud?
Batteries go bad especially if not kept charged.
If you can jump at the battery and the bike starts right up the battery is bad and won’t hold a charge.

Unhappy

Thanks Bob, for the response to my solenoid problem. I have a fairly new battery and all of my lights shine brightly. Just to be sure the battery was adequate, I charged to full strength with my "trickle charge" which took less than 4 hours. I made sure the neg/pos posts were tight also. Is accessing the solenoid easy enough or a real headache and is it integrated with the starter? All responses welcomed and appreciated...help...I need to get up and running again. Trying not to take it to the dealership for a costly repair...

Besides the cable connections at the battery you also need to check the ground connections. And the only way to know if your battery is good is to get it load tested after it's fully charged. Most automotive parts stores will do it for you.

have some heavy jumpers??? if the post on the starter is accessible, jump power to it direct, if she turns, starter good. solenoid contacts can become highly resistive from burned contacts.

The last thing you should suspect is the starter motor, these units are pretty much bulletproof.
Forget about screwing around with jumper cables.
Follow nevil`s advice, get the battery load tested first.

divided and conquer, very important in electrical/electronic work., jumpers do just that. in old crt tv, a common practice, lift circuit and supply correct signal, works?, behind the split, not, go forward.
