Oil in the air cleaner?
I have a 2010 FLHTK. I recently upgraded the AC to a kuryaken. When I pulled off the stock AC I found a fair amount of oil had soaked the old filter. A couple of days after I changed it I opened it back up and again there was a film of oil inside. Can anyone help me understand why this might happen and what I should be doing about it? Thank you!

the hd breathes into the cleaner.
2010, the umbrella valves maybe getting hard.
high mileage?? then blowby beyond what the separator can handle.
design of the cleaner
some just pipe the vapor to the outside into a catch can. myself, vent directly into the carb throat.

It has 72K on it. That's creative, is that a kit? or did you come up with that? I saw one that had an external "oil seperator" looking filter plumbed down below the AC, was curious what the purpose was, makes sense now. Are the "umbrella valves" something one could change? Thanks for the response.

J, if you do a search on the forum for "oil in air filter" or something similar, you will get enough info and pics to keep you busy for quite some time. There are many ways and methods of dealing with it. Most, including myself, route the breather tubes to ground. Some claim relief by running the oil level lower than full. Others put a sanitary napkin below the filter. (no joke)
It's been an issue for many years. You could open the rocker boxes up and renew the umbrella's but that may not help. Some of that oil is getting ingested into the intake and crudding up the combustion chambers so you should be getting it away from there however you choose to do it.

There are other methods too. One other thing you might want to do is replace the filters in your overhead where the tubes come from.
