Stock ECM Plug & Play????

Stock ECM Plug & Play????
Hey all, I bought a used stock ECM (as a backup) for the same year, model bike (2003 FLHRSEI2) that ate a bumper of the car in front if it. Just bent the forks & destroyed the fender so they totaled it. Motor & everything else was fine & bike was running fine. The rest of the bike looked totally stock.
Short youtube video of wrecked bike on stand running & going through the gears.
My bike runs GREAT with the OEM ECM plugged in.
The replacement ECM is a different story.
When I plug it in to test it, the bike kicks over & dies immediately. After 3 or 4 tries the red key icon on the right side of the speedo lights up & the starter won't even work to turn over the bike. After the red key icon lit up, I tried to arm & disarm the stock Harley alarm system (with the ignition off) on the bike to no avail.
When I re-plug my original ECM in, it clears the red key icon, starts & runs fine again.
Question, aren't the ECM's a plug & play? There is no evidence of a power commander or any other aftermarket ECM on the face of the replacement ECM. If it was re-flashed, wouldn't it still run on my bike also, just maybe not as well?
Anyone know why it isn't working? I have a couple of weeks to return it so I would REALLY appreciate some good info! THANKS MUCH, Bob
Replacement Stock ECM Same #'s as my OEM unit.

I believe that the new old ECM will need to be reprogrammed with your VIN and married to the TSM or TSSM, whichever your bike has.
The dealer can do it with Digitech, I don't think you can set the VIN yourself, if my memory serves me there is a way to marry the ECM and TSM or TSSM at home but it requires sticking to the procedure without deviations.

Can do it at home
procedure is outlined in the diagnostics manual or you can find it on the net
Make sure you get the right one for your bike, and the procedure has to be followed exactly
The procedure marries the ecm to the tacho, speedo and TSSM but will retain the VIN from the donor bike
As far as I know, Digitech is the only way to update the VIN for the replacement ecm

Old bike & 17 years old technology circuitboard. I plan to keep the bike & ECM on old bikes are failing more & more. I'm running into problems with HD calling what I need "obsolete parts" so for $90, seemed like a good bet to buy it & put it away for when needed.
