Default Air intake Solenoid Eliminator

I've replaced my stock air filter, and connected resistors of various values (18, 20 ohm & an aftermarket eliminator) across the solenoid socket to remove the error code P0661 from the ECU, without success. The alarm can be cleared before I start the engine, but a few seconds after start-up it reappears, and the connected resistor becomes hot very quickly(I've used 5, 10 & 25 Watt variants). All fuses are intact, and the connector itself is OK. Has anyone encountered a similar problem, or have any ideas as to how to overcome it?
