Default 2006 Ultra Classic blown headlight fuse

I was riding from NY to FL a few weeks ago. A few hundred miles into the ride my brother noticed I had no headlights. All other lights working but no head or spots. I checked the fuses to find the headlight fuse blown. As long as I left the switch off for the spots I was fine.I ran the rest of the trip spot switch off with no problems. When I got home I took the bat wing off to look for a problem. I found that even if I disconnect both spots turning on the switch still blows the fuse although nothing is hooked up. I read a couple threads with the same issue and those guys were told to check for a dead short. Mine happened a few hours into riding so I am ruling out a short. I am wondering if it could be the switch. Help!
