84 flhtc run a short distance and shut off , found 2 pinched wires repaired , batterey voltage all over hi/low, replace voltage regulator , charges ok now , replace 2yr old battery, runs good, a short ride to work, after work battery dead, get a jump (sealed style battery), looked for shorts, found 2 cut wires repaired , wired multimeter to battery direct drove 30 miles , voltage good 14 - 13 volts. left on for 3days voltage 13.2 when sitting off , went to start , clicks then starter spins not engaging, test solenoid to service manual .tests ok, swap solenoid with an old one(tested ok) starter stills spins no engagement, starter relay replaced last year along with all circuit breakers/ flashers, mian ground strap cleaned and checked ok checked stator, ignition mod. starter had new brushes this spring did the tests in service manual all ok, wires from battery appear ok I had put bike in gear to try to get engagement, momentarily let clutch out starter still spins, jumped across solenoid termials and it engages (with sparks) I have 102,000 on this bike ,it is all stock except screaming eagle ing. moduale and 22 amp alt my next step is to check the small wires from soleniod to starter relay , been spending a lot of time troubleshooting more than riding everyone at work says its time for a new one ,I bought new in 85 as left over, too attached to get rid of now , any ideas on next step
