Could be, but I know there are BT ODBCII devices that show realtime engine data.

What are the usage costs as opposed to using a 35 buck Serial/USB or 5.00 USB cable?

Most of the better and more responsive automobile scanning/logging wireless units seem to be wifi based. Unless things have changed recently, bluetooth for this kind of application is just not robust or reliable enough to be useful beyond toys. Not much real time data.

Does anyone know if the data cable from the old kit is the same as the one in the cable kit (32184-08) they are selling now.

The breakdown of the cable kit (32184-08) shows the data cable part number is 32116-01.

If some one with the new cable kit has the pin to pin configuration that would tell me.
The dongle cable that goes from the VCI to the data port on the bike is the same. The cable that is differn't is the one that goes fromt he computer to the VCI, old style and TTS are serial cables, new style SEPST is a USB cable.

Come to think about it we have some LeTourneau equipment that utilizes BT to access the onboard computer for troubleshooting. This is a huge Million dollar diesel log stacker and the maintenance guys use a ruggedized Laptop that connects to it over BT. They don't troubleshoot it with toys.

Found this;

http://www.iogear.com/product/GBS301/

Just walked down the hall and talked to an engineer (older guy like me) who is very familiar w/serial com. He said the best you could hope for from serial would be about 112kbps and that BT at about 720 Kbps would in no way create a bottle neck for serial com.

A hundred bucks is a bit pricey, but I think if I had a TTS it would be the ideal way to connect a small netbook or laptop for data collection. I’d like to have a BT USB receiver that I could connect to my SEPST for uploading and downloading.

Might be a worthwhile product improvement for either prodiuct. If it was built in the cost to the user would be considerably less than 99.95.

In that case wouldn't it be a futuristic idea for a Smart Phone app to base the tuning and BT? Put the SP in your pocket and ride.

We can't claim this idea though as it has been discussed on other tech forums. There is a glitch when it comes to creating an app says TTS. Especially when it comes to IPhone as you must purchase one of their special chips for a healthy price which gives you open source for programing.

Apple is all about control but Android, absolutely. There is an Android app called Torque that allows the phone to talk to a BT ODBII device.

It depends. I have every MAP i've ever tuned saved on a computer. They are all dyno tuned MAPS for specific builds. Whenever I tune a bike I always start with a previously tuned MAP for a like or similar build.
