Bike fires up briefly then RPM spike and shuts off

Time to replace the cam position sensor: 32793-00
Not that hard. Remove timing cover, remove sensor screw, trace wires to where they plug in under the right side cover. Pull wires from the plug, attach a wire to the old wires and pull wires through the loom. Disconnect the wire from the sensor wires and remove old sensor. Install new sensor and pull the sensor wire back through the loom with the wire you pulled through the harness. Attach the wires to plug. Ride again.
Have done this before.

ajayrk,
Thanks for your input!
I have an '01 Electra Glide police with the MM injection 51,000+ miles. I am having trouble with engine light comming on-off, poor running, and stalling at idle with a jump in the tach at stall. I did as you said and I get a couple of codes, 42, 16, and 41.
Did you post a full list of the available codes? If not, Where can I get a full list of the problem codes?
Thanks in advance,
kgaby

Here are some of the codes:
12 - MAP sensor 44 - bank angle sensor
16 - battery voltage 52 - RAM ecm failure
24 - front coil 53 - ROM ecm failure
25 - rear coil 54 - EEPROM failure
35 - tachometer 55 - other module failure
41 - crank pos sensor 56 - cam & crank mismatch (ghost code)
42 - cam pos sensor
56 - crank position sensor
Be sure to check that your battery is good and that the cables are clean and tight.
Additional codes: Taken from another site.
Trouble Codes:
The following trouble codes are valid up to 2002 bikes (I only have shop manuals for 99 and 02 so I can't speak to any newer bikes). Keep in mind that though a trouble code calls out a specific component, the actual problem may be in the component circuit. A good example is that code 24 will call out a bad coil, but a bad spark plug, or no compression will throw this fault too.
CodeReason
11Throttle Position Sensor (EFI only)
12Barometric Pressure Sensor (EFI only)
14Engine Temp Sensor (EFI only)
15Intake Air Sensor (EFI only)
16Battery voltage low
21,22Turn Signal bad (21=left, 22=right)
23,32Injectors (23=front, 32=rear) (EFI only)
24,25Coil (24=front, 25=rear)
31,32Alarm output bad (31=low, 32=high)
33Fuel Pump Relay (EFI only)
34Idle Speed Control (EFI only)
35Tach
41Crank Position Sensor, Check Engine light bad
42Cam Position Sensor (removed from tc88's in 00 or 01)
43Security Status Power, Vehicle Speed Sensor
44Bank Angle Sensor
52,53,54,55ECM fail (EFI only)
56Crank/Cam timing
61no TSM/TSSM data
63ECM/TSSM serial data
99bad password
