Lights don't work, start button doesn't work.

1. Replaced bars with Yaffe.
2. Blacked out parts and put back together.
3. After all put together, started fine.
4. Tail light and signals did not work.
5. Tried to fix signal, connections weren't line up between bulb and socket, was also sparking in there as I was moving them around.
6. Got them lined up, bulb blinked twice and blew a fuse. Replaced fuse.
7. Now, two big gauges don't light up, blinkers don't work (not even the indicators which used to), and doesn't start.

Doesn't appear anything is pinched, only see one blown fuse which is replaced.

What the heck did I do and what do I need to look for to fix? I'm a total rookie at this and need any advice I can get. Thanks guys!!!

Steve

Sorry for the duplicate post, just dying for some information.

double check for a pinched wire...i did same thing when i installed bars, had a pinch on right side of the bar,, i pinched a wire and wouldnt start, and also blown fuse,,no brake lights etc

Before I take the bars off and pull the wires, could that really be the problem? Prior to where I am at now, everything worked fine with the exception of the blinkers which I determined were not working because I did not have the white insert that holds the connections lined up right. The only other thing that wasn't working was the brake light when rear brake was depressed.

Is there a tool or something to test wires without pulling it all out?

So frustrated right now....alls I did was unplug these dang things and plug them back in.

Thanks for any input.

Pull all the fuses and test with a multimeter as some look good but are blown.

I'm going to do this tonight...is there a way to test the relays too while I'm at that. Could something have "blown" in one of them?

So, checked all fuses. Total of 3 were fried(battery, brakes, lights) replaced them and got everything working again except the signals. Still nothing happening when hit the button. No indicator light or any action with the signals. What next? Relay? Can I test that?

Your going to have to check over all your work. Diagnosing electrical problems on the net is near impossible.
If they worked prior to you pulling it apart then obviously you have pinched a wire in the bars or put them back in the connectors the wrong way.
It will be something small but you are going to have to check all your work carefully.
Keep checking fuses as you go because when there is a short they blow real quick.

yeah, i know i'm up against it trying to have guys help me out without seeing anything.

1/2 of me is saying the issue is probably in the wiring inside the bars, but that is the last think i want to check as pulling those bars and wires and putting them back in will not be fun.

the other 1/2 of me is saying it has to be something else (and for the record I am an amateur at this) because I've got everything working except the turn signals on each side. Lets say i pinched a wire in the right side, would that also make the left side not work? I don't know....i just feel like its something other than the internal wiring. is there a way to test that internal wiring without pulling them all?

You might find it is right where the wires go into the bars.

Undo the controls and check and see if anything is pinched or rubbed through or melted against another wire.

You can check the wires for continuity and make sure they are not going to ground (except ground wires of course) without removing wires from bars.
