2 5/8 mini tach

2 5/8 mini tach
I bought a 2 5/8 mini tach off of ebay, and wired it per HD instructions, but I think the tach is bad? It illuminates and the needle moves when the ign is turned on, but when I start the bike the tach does nothing. I used the tach signal from the blank third hole on the speedo connector and the power is there with power on and bike running. The tach is a used one and not new. Can this be sent off for repair or is it even worth it? Thanks, Rick

Pop open your ECM connector. Each pin is labeled with a number and you want slot # 3 which is probably blank with a plastic blue plug in it. Take the plug out with a scratch awl or small screwdriver strip off enough of the end of the tach signal wire to shove down in there for a test of the tach. Slide it down inside the hole and start her up. If you've got signal now then you know what you need to do. To do the fit correctly, you'll need a terminal from HD (part # 72076-00) to crimp onto the end of the tach signal wire and push it into slot # 3 until it clicks.
