I'm new to the ECM tuning world but worked on bikes and cars for about 28 years now, I have a 2011 SG and removed the cat out of head pipe, installed a pair of Rush slip-on's, and added a heavy breather, I jumped in and bought a Mastertune and installed caned tune. found best tune that represented what I have. I have to say that was kinda fun, getting ready to do the flight recorder this weekend, but what I would like to know is. Is this canned tune that I installed a "true" tune that somebody made to run "full time" on there bike or just a start tune to get you in the ballpark, I ask because if I'm riding with the flight recorder and like how the bike acts would it be ok to just leave the can tune in for good? Just don't know what to expect.

Thanks Gary
I have about 2000 miles on the TTS I installed on my trike with the "canned tune". It runs so much better I haven't gotten around to further tune it with "flight recorder". If and when you get around to do it, could you let me know so another novice will be aware of pit falls? Thanks, Bear
...Is this canned tune that I installed a "true" tune that somebody made to run "full time" on there bike or just a start tune to get you in the ballpark...
The canned tune (like all canned tunes) is simply to get you in the ballpark. The foundation of every tune are the VE's. Until those are properly set, the rest may not be very accurate.
FWIW, many do run their bikes just on the base map. Depending on how close that map is, you might get a pretty good running bike. Most of those maps have enough "safety margin" built into them so as not to cause issues.
With the TTS, run the cam tool and set that first (at least get the IVO), and then change the tuning constants to reflect the IVO.
Then, when you're ready, set the map as outlined in the TTS manual and begin vtuning. Go through that process a few times and you should see the bike beginning to run even better each time.
